Worming throughout the year There are two types of wormer that can be used for this, fenbendazole or moxidectin based wormers. Horses only need treating for tapeworm twice a year as the lifecycle takes six months to complete. This should be done in spring and autumn using a praziquantel or a pyrantel based wormer.

What should I deworm my horse with in the fall?

In fall Ivermectin w/ Praziquantel (Equimax®, Zimectrin Gold®) or Moxidectin with Praziquantel (Quest Plus®) will be effective. And during the winter season Pyrantel Pamoate (Strongid paste®, TapeCare Plus®), Fenbendazole (Panacur®, SafeGuard®) or Oxibendazole (Anthelcide®) can be administered.

What worms do horses get in autumn?

The parasites that become prevalent going into the autumn and winter are tapeworm, redworm, and bots. If horses become infected, they can suffer from symptoms ranging from loss of conidiation to colic, while a severe worm burden can even be fatal.

For horses at higher risk of parasite exposure, STRONGID C 2X provides a safe, effective method to help reduce exposure to parasites. Foals may be administered STRONGID C 2X as soon as consistent intake of grain mix is occurring, generally between 2 and 3 months of age.
