Asked by: Gustavo Torres

An overflow pool is also known as a deck level pool. The entire perimeter of the pool is surrounded by an overflow channel. The water line is level with the edge of the pool and overflows into this channel. The channel is typically covered with plastic grating.

What is deck in swimming pool?

The area that surrounds your swimming pool is called a pool deck. For in-ground pools, many people choose a concrete pool deck, since it’s a durable material that can be customized. Wood and composite decking are used around above-ground pools.

What do the levels of pool mean?

The scale has levels from 0 to 14. 0 to 7 reflects a low or acidic pH, and 8 to 14 means the pool has a base pH level. Low pH readings mean your chlorine will dissipate quickly, whereas high pH levels make chlorine inactive. This means that the money you’re spending on chlorine is, unfortunately, wasted.

What is a pool deck called?

The hardscape area around your swimming pool is called a surround, deck, or decking, even though it isn’t always made of wood or composite, like traditional outdoor decks with which we most often associate the words. Traditionally, most in-ground swimming pool decks are made of concrete.

What is the correct pool level?

Pool owners often wonder what the optimal water level is for their pool. The pool water level is best measured at the skimmer assembly. The water level should be about one-third of the distance below the top of the skimmer.

Why does pool water feel slimy?

Chlorine is a slimy-feeling material when it gets wet. If you have chlorine dust or residue on your fingers and then touch the pool water, the pool water will feel slimy. Avoid this by wearing gloves when dealing with all pool chemicals, and never add water to chlorine; only add chlorine to the water.

What happens if pool water level is too high?

If the level is higher than that, it may slow or even stop debris from being pulled into the skimmer box through the plate or valve. This means that there will be floating debris left on your pool water surface as a result.

Is it bad for a pool to be too full?

You don’t need to drain your pool, as there is no risk to your pool by it being full. The only thing you lose with a pool filled to the rim is your skimmer’s surface cleaning action. Overall, it still draws water and the equipment is just fine.

How do I know if my pool water is too low?

If your water level is too low, your skimmer will suck in water as usual, but it will also suck in air. And in case you don’t already know, your pool system was designed to move water only—never, ever air.

Does an Intex pool have to be level?

Intex pools or any above ground pools should only be used on level ground as much as possible. However, Intex and other pool manufacturers give their customers some leeway when it comes to setting up their above ground pools on unlevel surfaces.

What happens if you don’t level a pool?

The water will press with more force on one section of the pool than the others. This uneven weight distribution can buckle, twist or even collapse the pool wall, resulting in property damage and injury to anyone in or around the pool when it fails.

Does an above ground pool have to be perfectly level?

An above ground pool needs to be setup on level ground. Manufactures typically state a pool should be level within an inch, while those who are OCD may try to do even better. An above ground pool that is off level by 3 inches or more is unsafe.
