A goal kick is a free kick. However, any free kick awarded to a team in its own Penalty Area, must first leave the penalty area and enter the field of play in order to be in play. Therefore, if a goalkeeper takes the goal kick and somehow puts it into his team’s goal, the goal kick is RETAKEN.
