Are Shimano brake calipers interchangeable?

Also, just like SLX all the callipers, whether two or four piston, are interchangeable with the levers, so you can mix and match to your heart’s content.

Can you mix levers and calipers?

Generally speaking, as long as you match the brand of levers and calipers, you’ll be good to go, although this may not be true for some of the more bespoke MTB brands. The #1 thing to remember is that you can’t mix & match parts that are meant for mineral oil with parts that are meant for DOT brake fluid.

Are bike brake calipers interchangeable?

Yes you can use the combination you want. You will need to use SM-BH90 hoses with straight connectors both ends. If you use your existing hoses they will never feel as sharp as they should. Toys19 – DOT and mineral are two completely different types of brake fluid.

The BH90 and BH59 hose are fully interchangeable as long as you get the correct fittings.

Are Shimano and SRAM brake adapters the same?

Shimano brakes are ok on SRAM/Avid mounts and vice versa, and they will both work fine on Hope mounts. Just be aware that SRAM make 200mm rotors and Shimano/Hope make 203mm so you might need to add some extra washers to run those 203’s on your SRAM mount.

Can you use SRAM brakes with Shimano shifters?

Those are incompatible — one is insoluble in water, and the other is water soluble. So if you were to attach Shimano brake levers to SRAM calipers, the seals in the caliper would fail if you were to use Shimano fluid in the system, and the seals in the lever would fail if you were to use SRAM fluid.

Are rear brake calipers interchangeable?

The calipers are identical, the adapter is the only difference.

Post mount adapters are in general compatible for front and back, making the front/rear label obsolete. Good answer.

Can I use flat mount calipers on a post mount frame?

You CAN adapt flat mount calipers for post mount frames but not the other way round. There is also the fact that the FM caliper is bolted from the opposite side of the adapter – it has two threaded holes, as opposed to two eyelets in the case of IS and PM calipers.

What disc brake adapter do I need?

To figure out what size adapter you need, you’ll have to check and see what size rotor your frame and/or fork were designed for. For example: if your fork was designed to fit a 160mm rotor and you want to run a 180mm rotor, that is a difference of 20mm, and that’s the adapter you would need.
