On machines, what is the weight listed?

What do numbers on weight machines mean?

Usually, each plate is marked with a number. On some machines these numbers give the actual weight of the plate and those above it. On some, the number gives the force at the user’s actuation point with the machine. And on some machines the number is simply an index counting the number of plates being lifted.

What is the weight on machines measured in?

For example, the United States uses pounds as a unit of weight measurement. Other countries observe the metric system. In these countries, a kilogram is the unit designated to measure weight. As a comparison, one pound is equal to 2.2 kilograms.
