Can I use grease for bicycle chain?

This section is really here to advise against using grease to lubricate your chain. While grease is great for bearings and threads, it won’t penetrate the gaps between the rollers and pins where you really need the lubricant because it’s far too thick. The viscous friction will be much higher too.

Is White lithium grease good for bike?

The lithium grease spray works fine in a pinch, but it is not an ideal lube. I found that it picked up a lot of dirt and did not stay on the chain very well, especially through water. I don’t recommend motorcycle chain lube either.

Is White lithium grease good for chain lube?

Re: white lithium grease as chain lube

Lithium grease will work as a chain lube, but you’ll probably need to use it a little more often. Most motorcycle chain lubes have some type of additive to minimize fling-off. You’ll probably need to clean the rear wheel a little more often, too.

Is it OK to use WD-40 on bike chain?

WD-40 is a great bike chain lube water based lubricant and will not only lubricate the chain well, but will also keep it rust and corrosion free. It also minimizes the accumulation of dirt which reduces the wear and tear of the chain.

How good is lithium grease?

Lithium-complex greases generally possess good stability, high-temperature characteristics and water-resistance properties. Other performance requirements like extreme pressure, anti-wear, rust and corrosion can further be improved by adding suitable additives.

Is WD-40 a good bike chain lube?

Is WD-40 good for bike chains—summary. In summary, WD-40 is great for cleaning and degreasing your chain, but doesn’t work well as a lubricant. It will provide some small amount of lubrication, but nowhere near enough for your bike chain to run smoothly. It’s best to use a high-quality, bike-specific lubricant instead.

Can you use lithium grease on MTB?

My fork manual states I should not use lithium-based greases and this will result in corrosion of the sliders. I used to think that a water resistant grease must be lithium soap based. I have like 4 different greases I use on my roller skates bearings and on my bike, but I am pretty sure they are all lithium based.

Is lithium grease good for bearings?

On that note, White Lithium Grease is ideal for long-term lubrication, vertical applications, and where the prevention of water ingress is a requirement. What’s more, it can also be used as a break-in lubrication for bearings, pistons and camshafts. Other notable applications include: Door hinges.

What is the difference between lithium grease and white lithium grease?

Lithium-based grease can withstand high temperatures and are perfect for cars, heavy machinery, and guns. White lithium grease repels water and is a prevalent option for not-so-demanding parts. It includes door hinges and sunroof sliding panels.

Can I use lithium grease on threads?

What is white lithium grease used for?

White lithium grease is a great all-around grease for lubricating light- to medium-load items like tools and garden equipment. Grease is the lube of choice for higher-load items like bearings and axles because it cushions parts. And unlike oil, which tends to seep away, grease stays in place and lasts much longer.

Is silicone spray OK for bike chains?

Yes. It is not optimal for use on chains though. It washes away rather easily leaving your chain unprotected and un-lubricated. It would work in a pinch but a light oil or something specifically made for the application will work much better and last a lot longer.
