A sintered base begins as an extruded base which is ground down to a powder, then reheated until the particles bond. This gives a sintered base a vary porous surface. It is also a very durable surface, but it can be pricey to repair.

Can you PTEX a sintered base?

All p-tex repairs are done with extruded p-tex because it’s not possible to use sintered p-tex unless you own your own snowboard factory with some very expensive tools.

A tune with a core shot that large would run folks between $60-$80. It’s a lot of work. If you use p-tex, I recommend a base welder for the repair, which is a hot air gun that you use to melt p-tex. Many old-school ski shops have these.
