How do you flush outboard motor with earmuffs?

Asked by: Lamont Carter

Flush muffs are the most common way to flush an outboard; they’re available at most marine stores and online resellers. They’re inexpensive, and easy to use. Connect to a garden hose, fit the muffs over the engine’s water intakes on the sides of the gear case, turn the water on, start the engine, and let it run.

Where do you put the water muffs on an outboard motor?

Have these small holes located here on the side down near the bottom of the engine or the outdrive. And that is your main water intake. They are on both sides of the engine.

Basically what they do is create a seal around the intake. The water intake port of your engine. And allow your engine to suck in water and cool itself off as if it were in the water.

11. Do not rinse Salt-Away out of engine with fresh water. Leave inside so that its corrosion inhibitors can protect the metal from rusting and corroding, and so that the salt removing agent can begin to break apart salt accumulation.

Do I need to rinse off salt away?

8. Rinsing off equipment with fresh water before or after the Salt-Away treatment is not necessary. Leaving Salt-Away on the equipment after the application will allow the solution to drizzle and drain into areas that stay wetter longer and where pooled salt is more likely to cause corrosion from the inside-out.
