Once you've got the band on the Hat you'll want to anchor it in some way. And I usually tell people it's easiest just to glue it down.

Hold your band around the base of the hat, so the ends overlap. Pinch the ends together at the point where the band needs to be connected. Make a small dot with a marker at the pinch points on both band ends. For the overlapping end, make the dot on the under side, where it will not show once the hat band is complete.
