What is Shimano HG50?

Shimano HG50 8 Speed Cassette, available in 12-25, 13-26, 11-28, 11-30, 11-32 and 11-34 teeth gear ratios. High quality 8-speed cassette. Hyperglide sprockets have a computer designed tooth configuration with contoured shift gates, resulting in a crisp smooth shift even under load.

Are all 8 speed cassettes compatible?

Most Shimano-compatible freewheel bodies accept 8-speed cassettes.. Note the following exceptions: Aluminum 10-speed freehub bodies with taller splines work only with 10-speed sprockets. The wider 8-speed cassette does not fit on the narrower 7-speed body.

Are SRAM and Shimano 8 speed cassettes interchangeable?

In some cases, it is possible to run a cassette from a different brand than the rest of your drivetrain. SRAM and Shimano cassettes, on either road or mountain bike, are interchangeable with each other as the spacing is the same between the sprockets.

What does CS mean on Shimano cassette?

I am looking at getting a new bike, and am trying to figure out what the shimano abbreviations for cassettes actually stand for. Their cassettes are broken into two groups, CS and MF. The CS has a free body hub, and the MF has a screw on type cassette (my favorite type).

Is an 11 34 cassette good for climbing?

All other things being equal, the 34T sprocket on the 11-34T cassette is going to give you the easiest gear. If your bike is currently fitted with an 11-28T cassette, switching to an 11-34T cassette will make climbing less of a struggle.

Does the number of teeth on a cassette matter?

The tooth count does not matter, but the cassette on the trainer may be in slightly different position in relation to the derailleur than the cassette on your wheel. This is true even if they were the exact same cassette.

Are all freewheels interchangeable?

No, freewheels are completely different from the cassette / free hub system and are not interchangeable. A freewheel includes the ratchet mechanism that allows the sprockets to rotate backwards as well as the sprockets themselves, and threads into the hub.

Can I use a 105 cassette with tiagra?

If you go for Tiagra you can’t upgrade to 105 one component at a time because 10-speed and 11-speed drivetrain components aren’t interchangeable. You’d have to upgrade most of the groupset components at once for optimum performance.

Will 8 speed chain work with 9 speed cassette?

As for using an 8 speed chain on a 9 speed cassette, it is less than optimal. You might get lucky and it will work acceptably with some parts combinations. But it is the wrong part, no way around it. The chain is too wide and will tend to make noise, run rough and stick between the sprockets.

Which cassette is best for climbing hills?

Your best bet, especially if you’re a slightly heavier cyclist and you have trouble keeping up on hills, is to install a rear cassette that has a large cog size of 34 or 36. With that option available for climbing, those ascents will be much easier to handle.
