How can you tell the difference between barbells?

One of the biggest differences is the sleeves. The sleeves are the ends of the bar that hold the weight plates. Olympic barbells have 2-inch, rotating sleeves; regular barbells have 1-inch, non-rotating sleeves. Another reason why many people prefer an Olympic bar to its standard counterpart is the rotation.

Do Olympic bars have center knurling?

Even if you are using a bar with center knurling for traditional Olympic lifting workouts a center knurl may not bother you, because the number of repetitions is not typically that high. In fact, all certified men’s Olympic lifting bars have a center knurl.

Can you back squat without center knurl?

For competitive powerlifters or weightlifters, you do need center knurling for squats. This is because you need a stable bar position to perform the lift safely but also to allow you to generate more force and lift more weight. A moving barbell will cause lifters to lose balance and momentum during a lift.

Why do people like Sharp barbells?
