Are all derailleur hangers the same?

There are thousands derailleur hanger types (designs) on the market. Every frame manufacturer could have different sos hanger design for each model of frame and different sos hanger for same frame but manufactured on different year.

Can you use any derailleur hanger?

If you have a standard mount rear derailleur, you can only use it with a standard mount hanger. If you have a direct mount hanger on the frame, you can only use with a direct mount derailleur with the b-link removed.

Is derailleur hanger necessary?

Carrying a spare derailleur hanger will help you when you’re at a loose end. You wouldn’t think a derailleur hanger would be such a crucial and essential part on a bike. Not many people know how important they actually are, but they help protect your bike frame from being damaged by snapping.
