Can you enclose a gas meter?

Your gas meter should not be enclosed inside the fence. Keeping your meter clear is vital to ensure that it does not get damaged, your gas service is not interrupted, and to prevent a malfunction. An installation like the one you’re proposing, though, could potentially be done in a meter box.

Can you build around your gas meter?

Yes, there are clearance requirements. You want to check with local gas distributor. Or maybe also a risk that erecting any construction so close to the meter will require excavation that needs to be clear of any buried gas lines.

Can you box in a gas meter?

Nothing wrong with boxing in the gas meter. But either make it removable or make the opening big enough so that you can access the entire meter so it could be removed. Also need to make the shut off valve and test nipple accessible. It must also be ventilated high and low to 2% of the floor area of the enclosure IIRC.

How much clearance do you need around a gas meter?

(a) Gas meter locations must be 78 inches high and allow for a minimum clear and level working space of 3 feet in front of the meter; width depends on meter size and the number of meters. Grade slope should be less than 2%.

Can you cement around a gas meter?

No, you cannot pour concrete over a gas line. The concrete might damage the pipe, especially if there is any seismic activity.

Can I build a porch around a gas meter?

Building over a natural gas meter is illegal – and dangerous. By law, residential and commercial builders MUST NOT build any structure, including a deck or patio, on top of, or around, an outside natural gas meter and underground service line (see illustration below).

Can a deck be built over a gas meter?

You can bury pipes in concrete as long as they’re protected against corrosion, denso tape will be fine for the water pipes. The gas pipe should be factory coated (yellow) and have no joins or fittings underground, keeping the gas pipe in a duct would be handy, but gas pipes can be buried in concrete too.

Can gas lines run under concrete?

No gas piping shall be installed in or on the ground under any building or structure unless installed/sleeved in gastight conduit, and all exposed gas piping shall be kept at least 6” inches above grade or structure.

Can you put concrete around a water meter?

The only problem would be if the water meter was within the area you wanted to concrete. You might want to consider some sort of raised edging for the border of your garden bed/driveway though, or something placed in between the two (like a letterbox maybe) as a barrier – just to guard against any imprecise driving….

Can you move a water meter yourself?

It all depends on where the meter is currently located, and where you want to move it to. Here are the options: If your water meter is inside your home, and you want to move it to another position inside your home, you can either ask us to move it, or arrange for a water industry approved plumber to move it for you.

Where is a water meter usually located?

The sensors are unattended and hang on the meter, outside the house, and so they are easily tampered with. The cyber attacks against them can be active, where commands are issued to them, or passive, where the data is taken. If people want to reduce their water bills, they could hack the sensors.

Can I be forced to have a water meter?

You don’t have to accept a smart meter if you don’t want one. If your supplier tells you that you must have one installed, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline. If you refuse a smart meter, you might find it hard to access all tariffs.

Can I refuse a water meter affinity?

The company can refuse your request to install a meter if it would be impractical or too expensive to do so (see page 15). The company will choose where to put the meter. You can ask for it to be installed in a different place, but you may be required to pay the difference in costs.
