If you have available cable ports and are routing your dropper post internally, you’ll either thread the cable up through the seat tube, or through the down tube first at the front of the bike and then up the seat tube.

Can a dropper post be too long?

Most likely it will stop at its own collar pressing down at the frame’s seat post collar/binder. If then, at its full extension, the saddle still feels too high, you are likely to have a frame too big for you.

You can visually check from the outside with a tape measure to see if you have plenty of length to insert the dropper into your bike. But the best way is to mark this dropper insertion length onto your current rigid post from its end, then see if you can insert it far enough into your frame.
