Bike or e-bike/trike good for the rain

5 min read

Asked by: Brenda Valdez

Electric bikes, like their conventional cousins, are generally resistant to rain. The drivetrain will survive splashes. The battery won’t fail because of raindrops alone. But that doesn’t mean that you want to spray water and debris from the road all over yourself and your electric bike’s many and various components.

In essence, yes you can! An electric bike’s compartments, including its motor, battery pack, display and connection points are all cleverly designed with closed units to accommodate wet weather and the usual splashes of water that you’d expect while riding in the rain.

Most e-bikes are waterproof. Unless you are driving on very muddy roads or in wicked dusty conditions I’d not worry too much. It is probably a good idea to wrap the display/control panel with plastic just because that is a wear point, much more than the battery connections.
