When should you plant soybeans for deer?

When to Plant: Game Changer Forage Soybeans can be planted anytime in the spring or summer months. For maximum forage output, plant in spring 1 (one) month after the last frost for your region, or when soil temperatures consistently reach 60 degrees.

Will soybeans grow on top of the ground?

Soybean seed germinates best when planted at a depth of ½ to 1 ½ inches…but don’t worry too much if some is a little deeper and some seed is still on top the ground. Remember we planted a little heavy anticipating less than perfect germination.

Can soybeans be broadcast?

Broadcast-seeding soybeans can help increase yields and revenue, though challenges exist. An unconventional way to increase soybean yields and revenue may be already sitting in farmers’ machine sheds.

Is 2 too deep for soybeans?

If moisture is limiting, NEVER plant soybeans deeper than 2.5 inches. Soybeans germinate at about 50°F, but emergence may take 2-3 weeks under cold soils.

How deep is too deep for soybeans?

Soybean can tolerate depths up to 3 inches, but some stand loss is possible due to the energy required to emerge from this depth.

How long can soybeans stay in the ground?

If soybean plants are submerged for less than 48 hours, there is a good chance they will survive. Plants can survive under water longer under cool than warm temperatures. Submerged soybean plants can survive for up to 7 days when temperatures are less than 80 degrees F.

What happens if you plant soybeans too shallow?

Soybeans require 50% of their weight in moisture uptake to start germination. Shallow planting can lead to delayed emergence and/or stand loss. Most research suggests optimum planting depth is around 1 to 1.5 inches.

How close do you plant soybeans?

Soybeans must have warm soil to germinate and grow. Poke holes into a cultivated bed or row to plant soybean seeds about 2 inches (5 cm) apart and one-half inch (1 cm) deep. Thin to 6 inches (15 cm) apart in all directions.

What is the best month to plant soybeans?

Soybeans can be successfully planted in late April or early May in these regions but final stands may be more erratic so an insecticide/fungicide seed treatment is recommended for late April and early May plantings.
