Will road shifters work with MTB derailleur?

Most 8- and 9-speed Shimano mountain bike and road kit is inter-compatible because they both use the same cable pull ratio. This means that you can use an 8 -or 9-speed mountain bike derailleur with road shifters or vice versa.

Can you use any shifters with any derailleurs?

No, different maker or different model with different number of “speed” shifters have different pull ratio (i.e. the length of cable pulled by a single shift). Usually it’s safe to use different model with same number of gears from the same maker.

Can you use Shimano shifters with SRAM derailleur?

The SRAM rear derailleur (mech) will not work with a Shimano shifter as is; the cable pull and shift activation ratios are not the same between the two systems.

Can you use MTB Rd to roadbike?

Mountain bikes are designed to work both on-road and off-road. Most times, it’s what type of trails can it handle. For instance, cross country bikes are for mild trails, dirt roads, and paved roads in normal use.

Can I use 11 speed shifter with 9-speed cassette?

Nope. Above 6 (or 7, can’t remember which) speeds the spacing of the sprockets gets narrower as the number of sprockets increases. So, you can’t use a cassette with a mismatched number of sprockets – at least not for the full range of the cassette.

Are derailleurs universal?

No, bike derailleurs are not universal. A derailleur that works with one bike may not work with another bike based on factors such as the cage length. Check the difference between the smallest and largest cogs and also the chainring size to determine the derailleur compatibility.

Do shifters and derailleurs have to match?

If all the parts are new, then ignore all that stuff. The shifters and derailleurs need to match. Front: Sram and Shimano work with eachother on the front derailleur.

Can you use friction shifters with any derailleur?

Any derailleur will work with a friction shifter.

Can you mix SRAM and Shimano?

CHAINS AND CASSETTES

Buyers are free to use a SRAM chain and cassette with their Shimano groupset, and vice versa, just as a SRAM chain can be paired with a Shimano cassette, and vice versa. SRAM’s cassettes and chains are compatible with all of Shimano’s groupsets, and vice versa.

Can you use Shimano rear derailleur with SRAM shifters?

Sram rear derailleurs require a 1:1 cable actuation ratio, Shimano rears require a 2:1. So you can not mix and match Shimano and SRAM rear derailleurs and shifters. For front derailleurs and shifters it doesn’t matter.

Can you mix 105 and Ultegra?

The parts of DURA-ACE, ULTEGRA and 105 are compatible with each other as long as they have the same number of gears.

Can I use a 105 cassette with Ultegra?

There’s no reason why you can’t use an Ultegra cassette with an otherwise 105 groupset, or vice versa. With both 105 and Ultegra, the largest sprocket you can officially use is a 34-tooth, although in truth you can go much larger than that; we have gear systems with 11-40 cassettes that work very happily.

Can I change a 9 speed cassette to 11 MTB?

Converting a 9-speed wheel to 11-speed

You will have to buy a new 11-speed wheel and replace the entire wheel. On the other hand, if your current wheel is an 11-speed wheel, you can convert it to 11-speed by removing the low spacer from the low side of the 9-speed sprocket and installing an 11-speed sprocket.

Can I put an 11 speed cassette on a 9 speed hub MTB?

An 11-speed cassette will fit on a 9-speed hub only when the hub is wide enough. Luckily, 8,9,10 and 11-speed mountain bike hubs have the same spacing, and one can therefore use an 11-speed cassette on all of them.

Are road and MTB cassettes compatible?

SRAM and Shimano cassettes, on either road or mountain bike, are interchangeable with each other as the spacing is the same between the sprockets.

Can you change gear shifters on a bike?

There are several types of shifters, but they all operate on this same principle. Although reasonably durable, shifters do eventually wear out. If you’re comfortable with basic hand tools and mechanical concepts, then replacing a bicycle gear’s shifters is not at all that difficult.

Are SRAM shifters interchangeable?

On mtb’s the front mechs all use the same actuation. You can interchange Sram and Shimano shifters and mechs.

Can you use a Microshift derailleur with a Shimano shifter?

Yes, it has to. If the shift ratio is the same it will work both ways. Microshift also make grip-shifters.

Are 7 speed derailleurs interchangeable?

Shimano derailleurs marketed as 7, 8, 9 speed (and in addition, 10 speed road), can be interchanged in any of those speed drivetrains.

Will a 7 speed rear derailleur work with 8 speed cassette?

yes it will work.

Can I use a 10-speed derailleur on a 7 speed cassette?

No, you cannot. A bike with a 7-speed cassette would also come with a 7-speed shifter and a chain that is compatible with 7-speed cassettes. This will make it impossible for a 10-speed derailleur to work on it. This is because a 7-speed shifter and a 10-speed derailleur have different pull ratios.
