Which one to choose for a home routine: pushups vs floor dumbbell presses?

3 min read

Asked by: Ashley Edmonds

Go with the basic pushup. Because of the angle of the arms, if you do a floor press with dumbbell (Assuming you mean a bench press type of movement) then you are missing almost half of the available range of motion.

Which is better push-ups or dumbbell press?

Trade in your barbell for your body: The pushup is just as effective for building chest and arm strength as the bench press, finds a new study in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research.

Does floor press help with push-ups?

#1 – IMPROVES UPPER BODY STRENGTH
This makes it an awesome tool for targeting the muscles and portions of the lift help break through plateaus for improving strength in the bench press, shoulder press, push-ups, handstand push-ups and ring dips.

Are floor dumbbell presses effective?

Is the Dumbbell Floor Press Effective? The movement is exceptionally effective for enhancing lockout and arm strength, building muscle mass for the triceps, shoulders and chest and for breaking through training plateaus.

Can dumbbells replace push-ups?

The incline dumbbell press will target the upper part of the chest more than a pushup would, but it will still help build size and strength in the upper body.

Why is floor press better?

Triceps Hypertrophy
On the flip, the floor press targets the triceps to a greater extent than the bench press because of the decreased range of motion in the press (minimizes chest engagement and places greater loading on the elbow extensors/triceps).

How many floor presses should I do?

The floor press can be used to address lockout strength and build triceps and chest mass (mainly triceps) by training with heavier loads for fewer reps. Start by performing floor presses with three to five reps for three to eight total sets, depending on the training goal.

Can you build your chest with floor press?

Chest and Triceps Builder
When performed for three to five sets of six to 15 reps, the floor press is a great move to add mass to the chest, shoulders, and triceps. You can do all of this without adding excessive strain to the shoulders due to the decreased range of motion.

Why is floor press harder than bench?

The bench Is superior for the chest. In the floor press, the arms rest on the ground at the bottom of the movement, thus removing tension and elastic energy from your muscles. That brief pause makes the lift a lot harder, but it’s compounded even further by the lack of help from a negated lower body drive.
