Springtime brings flowers that blossom and let it all hang out, and in 1974, many University students followed suit. Streaking became a national craze in the ’70s as disrobed revelers invaded various sporting events and college campuses across the country.

Why was streaking popular in the 70s?

The counterculture movement was predominantly perpetuated by young white men, and many have considered streaking as a reaction to the social unrest and social justice movements brewing on campuses at the time.

Streaking, or running naked through a public place, began on college campuses in the late fall and winter of 1973. Unsurprisingly, it was most popular at warm-weather schools.
