We recommend starting with a skateboard deck width that is proportional to your shoe size. If you wear men’s size 6.5 to 9, start out with a deck width of 7.5 to 8.0 inches. If you wear shoes 9.5 or larger, we recommend getting a deck between 8.0 and 8.5 inches.
Is there a big difference between 8.0 and 8.25 deck?
Just a little more surface area for my feet so I'll have to see this has like been a really small test.

What age is good to start skateboarding?
5 – 10 years old
At Board Blazers, we recommend 5 – 10 years old is the best time to start skateboarding. Below 5 years old, most kids probably won’t have the best balance to completely learn how to skateboard. As a result, they’ll get frustrated quickly and end up not liking skateboarding at all.
