What is the choke position?

Similar to the throttle, the choke plate rotates from a horizontal to vertical position to open up the passageway and allow more air to get by. The choke is located before the throttle, and manages the total amount of air going into the engine. The choke is only used when starting a cold engine.
What position should choke be in?
Choke is a butterfly valve that mounted on the inlet of air passage of carburetor (upstream from carburetor venturi tube). Normally choke will be in open position, in which valve is parallel to the air flow, and has no effect on the air flow.
Which way is choke on or off?
The simple answer to this is “turn off the choke”. The purpose of the choke is to warm the system when it is in operation and when the lawn equipment is turned off, it is advisable to turn off the choke as well. Even leaving the choke in the ‘half’ position is not a good idea when storing.
What is choke on and off?
Choke on means that the choke plate is covering the carb throat. The “choke” is off when the choke lever is down or when the choke lever is facing you if your choke is a handle bar mount. Choke off means that the choke plate is not covering the carb throat.
What is the choke position on a lawn mower?
When you have a manual choke on your mower, you can locate it by following the cable from the trigger to the engine. If you have an automatic choke, you’ll find it near the air intake and next to the carburetor, the same location as a manual one.
Does the choke need to be open or closed?
The choke is only used when starting a cold engine. When doing a cold start, the choke should be closed to limit the amount of air going in. This increases the amount of fuel in the cylinder and helps to keep the engine running, while it is trying to warm up.
What does opening the choke do?
Once the engine is warm (from combustion), opening the choke valve restores the carburetor to normal operation, supplying fuel and air in the correct stoichiometric ratio for clean, efficient combustion.
What does choke off mean?
Definition of choke off
transitive verb. : to bring to a stop or to an end as if by choking.
How long do you leave the choke on?
The choke usually “chokes” the air supply into the engine so it gets more petrol than usual. Hence it’s name. You should start the bike from cold with half or full choke depending on how cold it is. After 30 seconds is usually enough for most bikes.
What is the choke on a bike?
A choke valve/cable is designed to restrict the flow of air in the carburettor of an engine. This helps enrich the fuel-air mixture, improving the ability to start an engine in low temperature conditions.
Can I ride my bike with the choke on?
You may have asked yourself, did I hurt anything? The truth is that while this is not good for your bike and it will cause some problems if frequently done, it is not that bad for your bike. But if you do this too often, it will cause your bike to run richer (using more gas), and may cause damage to the motorcycle.
When should you move the choke to the ON position on a motorcycle?
Most motorcycles use a kick-start system.
- Check the following conditions before starting. The fuel is on. The ignition is on. The motorcycle is in neutral. The key or switch is in the “Start” or “On” position.
- If the engine is cold, use the choke until it runs smoothly. Then move the choke to the “Off” position.
