In Chapter Four of The Kite Runner, Amir explains how his father and Alie became close. He also describes his relationship with Hassan. Since Hassan is a servant, Amir does not think of him as a friend. Amir used to read to Hassan and one day decides to pretend to read, but secretly make up a story.
