Regu-mate (altrenogest) is a synthetic hormone used to suppress the behavioral signs of heat (also called oestrus or being in season). It is an oil solution for oral use either directly on the mare’s tongue or in the feed. As a mare enters heat and prepares for breeding, her levels of oestrogen rise.
How long does Regumate take to work?
It can be given daily to a mare early in her season and usually within 3 days it will stop that oestrus. Regumate can continue to be given once daily afterwards to prevent the return to oestrus. When daily dosing stops, 95% of mares will show signs of returning to oestrus within 5 days.
Can you compete on Regumate?
Regumate may still be given to competition horses, the FEI has confirmed, despite the fact racing trainers have been told to remove it from their yards.
How long does Regumate last once opened?

Is Regumate FEI legal?
