Regu-mate (altrenogest) is a synthetic hormone used to suppress the behavioral signs of heat (also called oestrusoestrusEstrous cycles start after sexual maturity in females and are interrupted by anestrous phases, otherwise known as “rest” phases, or by pregnancies. Typically, estrous cycles repeat until death. These cycles are widely variable in duration and frequency depending on the species.

How long can you keep a mare on Regu-Mate?

Regu-Mate® (altrenogest) is a form of progesterone that can help you reliably mange your mare’s estrous cycle. When given daily for up to 15 consecutive days, Regu-Mate reliably keeps mares from entering estrus. [1] When use of Regu-Mate is discontinued, mares will come into heat within 4 to 5 days.

Is Regu-Mate good for mares?

Prudent use of the progestin Regumate can be beneficial in the reproductive management of mares. However, the use of exogenous progestins is not warranted in many instances, and many mares are administered the drug without a clear medical indication.

Can Regu-Mate make mares worse?

How often do you give a mare Regumate?

Detach syringe and administer solution orally at the rate of 1 mL per 110 pounds body weight (0.044 mg/kg) once daily for 15 consecutive days. Administer solution directly on the base of the mare’s tongue or on the mare’s usual grain ration.

Can you compete on Regumate?

Regumate may still be given to competition horses, the FEI has confirmed, despite the fact racing trainers have been told to remove it from their yards.

Can you put Regumate in feed?

It is an oily liquid that is top-dressed over feed one time daily. It is usually not used in the winter when a horse is anestrous.
