Lingcod is very good eating. It’s very comparable to halibut and cod – almost subtly balanced between the two. It’s mild flavor lends itself well to a variety of recipes.

Is ling cod a rockfish?
Lingcod are actually not cod at all — they are in the same group of fishes as sablefish, Pacific rockfish and scorpionfish. This bottom-dwelling fish only occurs on the West Coast of North America and can be found at depths of 1500 feet or more. Lingcod flesh is naturally blue-green prior to cooking.

How do you find lingcod?
The lingcod has a large mouth, large pectoral fins, a smooth body, and a long, continuous dorsal fin divided by a notch into spiny and soft parts. Adults have large heads and jaws and long, pointed teeth. Juveniles have slender bodies.
