Can tire sizes be changed?
It’s possible to change the size of your tires without actually changing the diameter. One example is if you want larger rims – you can buy tires that compensate for the larger rims by reducing the “height” of the outer tire.
How much can I change my tire size?
As a general rule of thumb, it’s safe to fit a tire up to 20 millimeters wider than stock on the original rim. The actual width of the tire will vary depending on the width of the rim: The tire will expand 5 millimeters for every half inch (12.5 millimeters) increase in rim width.
How much will changing tire size affect speedometer?
Up-sizing, or installing a taller tire, will lead to a speedometer reading that is slower than your actual speed. This is because a taller tire will have a larger overall circumference, causing it to need to travel more distance per revolution than the original equipment tire.
Does changing tire size affect performance?
If you choose bigger wheels, you will improve the stability of your car and the range of braking distance will be shortened; A larger diameter means that the wheel will be heavier and consequently speed will be slightly compromised during acceleration (depending also on the torque of the car);
Can I use 245 tires instead of 235?
The quick answer is yes you can replace 245/50-18 tyres with 235/50-18 but they will have 10mm (0.4 in) smaller overall diameter. Will only slightly effect speedo and odometer – ie speedo will read about 1.5% high.

Quote from video: If you know anything about the way tire sizing works is the taller the tire. The longer your effective gearing becomes.
Can I use 245 tires instead of 225?
If you value stability, traction, and being able to load more, you should go for a 245 tire as it is considerably wider. On the other hand, if you want to make your car perform better in deep snow, slush, or standing water, go for a 225 tire as a narrower tire is able to dig into snow and water a lot more easily.
Can wrong size tires damage car?
Unfortunately, altering the tire size of a vehicle without thorough and careful consideration is a decision that can really bite. Fitting the wrong tire size can cause damage to a vehicle, and is a real safety hazard as well.
Does changing tire size affect gas mileage?
For example, larger tires decrease your fuel economy because they are heavier, while smaller tires increase fuel efficiency. Bigger tires also have a higher rolling resistance than smaller tires which means they require more resistance and effort to get them rolling.
How do I calibrate my speedometer for bigger tires?
Press and hold the calibration button located on the speedometer, start the vehicle, and then release the button. Press that button again and then take the test drive. Once you have driven the distance needed, press the button once more and the speedometer will calibrate itself to accommodate the new tire size.
Does increasing tire size affect the odometer?
A set of bigger tires does affect the odometer by making it unable to count the correct distance traveled because the odometer is not aware that you increased the size of the tires.

What damage can bigger tires cause?
Naturally, increased height from larger tires means you have a higher center of gravity. This changes the handling of your vehicle by increasing body roll and load transfer. In some cases, you may experience less stability when braking and cornering — especially if traveling at high speeds.
