Sram crankset compatibility

Asked by: Michelle Roman

Are all SRAM cranks compatible?

SRAM is bringing to market a complete update of its 12-speed crank range, from GX Eagle up to XX1 Eagle, via Stylo and Descendant, all based around a new axle diameter specification named DUB (Durable, Unifying Bottom Bracket).

Can I use a Shimano crankset with SRAM?

Thus, cranks from Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo are freely interchangeable along with those from all aftermarket brands (e.g. FSA, Rotor, Praxis, etc.). And while it is preferable to match the chainrings/crankset to the transmission, there is no strict need to do so.

How do I know if my crankset is compatible?

In most cases three-and two-piece cranksets are compatible with the same bottom brackets so long as the axle is the same diameter. They are commonly used in conjunction with the mid-style bottom bracket standard. One-piece: This is where the axle and crank arms are a single piece of steel.

Will a SRAM crank work with a Shimano bottom bracket?

SRAM DUB cranks have a 29mm axle and are therefore not compatible with Shimano bottom brackets designed for 24mm axles. Thus, SRAM DUB cranks need a SRAM DUB bottom bracket too.

Are SRAM crank arms interchangeable?

Yes you absolutely can! All current generation SRAM and Quarq power meters are compatible with SRAM and Quarq 8-bolt DUB and GXP crank arms. So you can pair any SRAM, Force or Quarq 8-bolt crankarms up to any of these power meters.

Can SRAM DUB fit BB30?

Before you shake your head and scream at the sky at the prospect of another BB standard, SRAM DUB will fit anywhere existing GXP and BB30 cranks go. DUB will fit your frame.

Will any crankset fit on my bike?

Crankset compatibility. You can replace the chainrings on your crankset, but not all chainrings will fit all cranks. First, different cranksets may have a different number of arms or direct-mount interfaces (connecting the cranks to the chainrings), and they may be positioned differently.

Can I use SRAM chainring with Shimano chain?

No. SRAM chain on the Shimano cassette will degrade shifts. Buy an aftermarket chainring that will work with it all.

Can I use SRAM chainring with Shimano cassette?

In general, it’s not recommended to combine a SRAM chainring with a 12-speed Shimano chain unless it’s explicitly specified that the chainring is compatible with a 12-speed Shimano HG+ chain.

Can you mix and match crank arms?

Back to your question, if you stick to the same type of arm and interface (like road or mountain bike), you can generally mix and match between the left and right sides. So you might have a 105 power crank arm matched with an Ultegra crank arm. Just make sure to match crank arm length and you are set. That’s the idea!

Do all cranks fit all bottom brackets?

In general terms, most cranksets can be fitted to a variety of bottom bracket shells, though much of this compatibility depends upon the availability of suitable hardware (see next section). Any incompatibilities that do arise are often related to the length and/or diameter of the crank axle.

Can I put a bigger crankset on my bike?

Yes, you can. This will make it suitable for diverse terrains and make pedaling easier. Putting a smaller chainring on your road bike isn’t a problem but you may have to change your crankset.

Can you just change crank arms?

Replacing square taper cranks is not a hard job, but does require a special tool to pull the cranks off the bottom bracket axle. Also, the new cranks should be tightened onto the axle with a torque wrench to ensure sufficient torque is applied (but they are not over-torqued).

What does dub mean in SRAM?

Durable Unified Bottom Bracket

In 2018, SRAM introduced mountain bike cranksets which use a new technology name DUB™ (Durable Unified Bottom Bracket). Meant to simplify frame BB and crankset compatibility across their product lines, it brought about yet another standard to understand.

Can I change my crankset?

12 Speed CHAINRINGS and CHAIN Compatibility, Mixing …

Can any crank go on any bike?

Crankset compatibility. You can replace the chainrings on your crankset, but not all chainrings will fit all cranks. First, different cranksets may have a different number of arms or direct-mount interfaces (connecting the cranks to the chainrings), and they may be positioned differently.

What is the difference between GXP and dub?

What are the main differences between DUB and GXP? DUB uses an oversized aluminum spindle, while GXP uses a 24mm steel spindle. DUB cranks fit into all major existing frame BB shell standards while GXP only fits into the 24mm specific versions. DUB BBs are also more durable than GXP BBs.

What is SRAM GXP crankset?

Sram GXP is a very popular crankset standard used by SRAM. It offers an industrial based bearing arrangement and was touted as having the lowest weight and rolling resistance of any crankset bottom bracket standard. The engineering will be analysed in detail.

What is the difference between boost and non boost crankset?

The only different between boost and non boost drivetrain kits is the crankset. The only different between a boost and non boost crankset is the chainring. You can swap a crankset from boost to non boost or vice versa just by installing a different chainring. Hope this is helpful!

Which is better 1X or 3X crankset?

Gear range of different drivetrains:

In the above example of bikes with common drivetrains, the 1X bikes top out at 47 to 48KPH in their highest gear, while a 2X or 3X bike will offer 15-20% more speed, topping out at 56 to 57KPH.

Can I use a non boost crank on a boost bike?

Yes! The boost spacing is more to do with adequate chainring clearance than chainline. Depending on individual setup chainline may actually be improved for the lower gears by using non boost cranks. I run a non boost crank on a boost frame.
