Can a 142mm hub fit a 135mm frame?

Registered. Nope. As the number suggests, 142mm is 7mm wider than the dropouts on your frame. Also the Surge is 135x10mm, so you have to have either normal quick release or 10mm bolt up, 142x12mm simply won’t fit.

Are quick release and thru axle interchangeable?

While pretty much all QR skewers are interchangeable with each other, there are many different types of thru axle. So how do you tell a QR from a thru axle? The simplest way to do so is by looking at the axle itself. A QR is just 5mm in diameter, while thru-axles are much thicker.
