How many spotters are necessary to safely complete a back squat?
Spotting the squat requires two people, one on each side of the barbell. Each spotter should place the crook of their elbow under the barbell sleeve and their hands by the plates. Spotters only touch the bar if the lifter misses the rep, which happens when the bar starts moving downward when it should be going up.

two spotters
It involves at least two spotters, and is the most safe when it comes to the avoidance of getting trapped under the bar. Stand close to the bar, while wrapping one arm underneath (avoid only using hands to catch the bar). Follow the lifter, and use the bicep, or crease in the arm to catch a falling bar.

Up basically where that bar would be at the depth of your squat.
