Pony Club is an international youth organization devoted to educating youth about horses and riding.

Why is it called Pony Club?

What is in a name? Back in 1929, the term “pony” was used to describe the mount of a youth equestrian. With a name steeped in the tradition of educating the next generation of equestrians, the name Pony Club continues to focus on education and quality care of both horses and ponies.

How did Pony Club start?

History. The Pony Club was formed in Great Britain in 1929 when the Institute of the Horse formed a youth branch of their organization, “The Pony Club.” It was formed to encourage children to start riding, while providing them with opportunities in the field that they would not be able to reach on their own.

Founded in England in 1929 this international voluntary youth organisation is a charity with around 345 branches and 480 centres in the UK alone. Worldwide the Pony Club has a presence in 27 countries and over 110,000 members – giving it a hugely important role in the lives of young riders around the world.

What age is Pony Club for?

Membership is open to anyone up to the age of 25. There is no national minimum age to join The Pony Club, although some Branches/Centres may have their own lower age limit depending on what they offer.

What happens at Pony Club camp?

Activities include cross country practice, flat work, jumping, practical and theoretical stable management, Pony Club achievement badge sessions, evening events and demonstrations etc, leaving Somerford Park Farm by 4pm on the Sunday afternoon. We have a very busy schedule but there is time to relax too.

How does Pony Club work?

Members pay an annual subscription and receive instruction at a Pony Club linked Centre, this subscription constitutes Membership of the Club and includes third party insurance. Since January 2016, Centre Plus Membership is also available for young riders with their own pony who ride at a Pony Club Linked Centre.
