Can you convert a 10 speed cassette to a 9 speed?
The 10 speed cassettes will work w/ the 9 speed wheels, you need to use the spacer that comes w/ the 10 speed cassette on 9 speed wheels. Otherwise, you should be fine.
Can I use a 9 speed shifter with a 10 speed cassette?
Theoretically a 9 speed derailleur will work with a 10 speed shifter and cassette. On the MTB side the change to a different actuation ratio was made at 10 speed, so a 9 speed MTB derailleur will not work with a 10 speed shifter and cassette.
Do I need a spacer for a 9 speed cassette on 10 speed hub?
If you have a 9-speed cassette, you only use the 1.85mm spacer. If you have a Shimano 10 cassette, you use the 1.85 PLUS the 1mm 10-speed spacer.

Converting a 9-speed wheel to 11-speed

Will a 11speed cassette fit 9 speed Hub?
The 11 spd cassette will fit fine on the freehub. The problem may be the 9 spd RD won’t handle the 46t cog. Derailleurs have a spec capacity and max cog size. Capacity is the difference between the smallest and largest cog plus the difference between the smallest and largest chainring.
Is there a 9 speed freewheel?
On the plus side, this is as good a freewheel as has ever been made, and will last a long time and work with your modern shifting system. This is a DNP-brand “Epoch” 9-speed freewheel. 11-34t for wide range. Since 9-speed hadn’t been dreamed of when freewheels were invented, it’s a little bit too wide.
Can I upgrade my bike cassette?

What is faster 9 speed or 11 speed?
11-speed cassettes are absolutely not faster than 9-speed cassettes. The factor that determines the speed of your bike is you; the rider. Putting an 11-speed cassette on your bike will not magically produce more speed.

For hill climbing and mountainous terrain, we recommend a road cassette such as the 11-32T SRAM Red 22 XG1190 11 Speed Cassette (A2), or the 11-34T Shimano Ultegra R8000 11 Speed Cassette.
Can you change cassette size?
Yes, you can. If a smaller cassette suits your needs and terrain more, there’s no reason why you can’t put it on your bike. It doesn’t affect the function of your bike or drivetrain in any way and shifting will not be different.
