Generally speaking, it takes about 1lb of CO2 to dispense a full 1/2 barrel keg (1 barrel = 31 US gallons / 1/2 barrel = 15.5 gallons). If you’re dispensing a smaller keg, we can work backwards from there.

How many kegs can a 5lb CO2 tank?

A 5-lb CO2 tank will last between 6-8 half barrel, or full kegs, before it will need to be filled. A 10-lb CO2 tank will dispense between 10-13 full kegs per fill. This number can be higher or lower based on how often you’re using your kegerator, the level of carbonation, and if your system is properly balanced.

How long will a 5lb CO2 tank last in a kegerator?

A standard, 5-pound CO2 tank will last from 2-4 half barrel (full-size) kegs, largely depending on if it is kept cold. Since heat causes carbon dioxide to expand, keeping it in hotter temperatures will ultimately limit its usability. However, if kept cold, CO2 should last for up to four half barrel kegs.

Can you use a keg without CO2?

If the keg was already pressurised with gas, and is already mostly used up, you can probably finish pouring some or all of the beer out of the keg without the need for more gas. This assumes there was no broken connection and that the keg is still airtight.

What PSI should I carbonate my beer at?

Burst Carbonation

To burst carbonate your homebrew, crank up your CO2 regulator to 30 psi for 24 hours. Then reduce down to normal serving pressure, which is around 12 psi to15 psi (depending on your beer line length and altitude). That should leave your beer 75% carbonated.
