It is best to begin taking this medication on the first day of your menstrual period. If you begin taking it on any other day, use an additional form of non-hormonal birth control (such as condoms, spermicide) for the first 48 hours to prevent pregnancy until the medication has enough time to work.
Can you get pregnant if you miss a norethindrone pill?
Try not to miss a dose. Every time you miss a dose or take a dose late your chance of pregnancy increases. When 1 pill is missed (even if only 3 hours late), take the missed pill as soon as possible and continue taking a pill each day at the regular time (use a back up method of birth control for the next 48 hours).
What to do if you miss a norethisterone?
If a dose is missed, the missed tablet should be taken as soon as it is remembered. The next tablet should be taken at the usual time, even if that means taking two tablets in one day. When Noriday® is taken 3 or more hours late, you should use additional contraception such as condoms, for the next seven days.
How likely is it to get pregnant on norethindrone?
About (0.5%) POPs users will get pregnant in the first year if they all take POPs perfectly (that is, on time, every day). About 1 in 20 (5%) “typical” POPs users (including women who are late taking pills or miss pills) gets pregnant in the first year of use.
Do I have to take norethindrone at the same time every day?
No matter what dosing schedule you use, it is very important that you take this medication at the same time each day, 24 hours apart. It is best to begin taking this medication on the first day of your menstrual period.
How long does norethindrone stay in your system?
The half life of elimination varies from 5 to 12 hours, with a mean of 7.6 hours. Norethisterone is metabolised mainly in the liver. Approximately 60% of the administered dose is excreted as metabolites in urine and faeces. The toxicity of norethisterone is very low.
