Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher and mathematician. He seems to have become interested in philosophy when he was quite young. As part of his education, when he was about age 20 he apparently visited the philosophers Thales and Anaximander on the island of Miletus.
When was Pythagoras birth and death?
Pythagoras was born about 570 BCE on the island of Samos. He died at Metapontium, in modern-day Italy, about 500 to 490 BCE.
How many years did Pythagoras live?
Pythagoras is thought to have died at the age of about 75 years, in about 495 BC. Some ancient sources claim he lived to be 100. He may have died in Croton, or he may have died in the city of Metapontum, along the southern Italian coast from Croton.
