According to Joel Sherman and Ken Davidoff of the New York Post, Cespedes broke his ankle in an incident with a wild boar.
How did Céspedes get hurt?
In May, the Mets announced that outfielder Yoenis Cespedes suffered right ankle fractures in a “violent fall” on his ranch in Port St. Lucie, Fl. New details reported by the New York Post, however, say that Cespedes was injured on his ranch stepping into a hole after an interaction with a wild boar.
What happened to the Mets Céspedes?
But that was Céspedes’ last full season, as a series of injuries stemming from calcification in his heels kept him off the field for most of 2017 and ’18, before he finally had surgery. His rehab was delayed by a fractured right ankle he sustained during a run-in with a wild boar at his ranch in 2019.
Why did Céspedes opt out?
Cespedes was not there, and his belongings were gone, too. Hours later, the Mets learned from Cespedes’s agent that the player was healthy and not in danger, but that he had decided to opt out of the 2020 season for what General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen called “Covid-related reasons.”
Does Céspedes still get paid?
“Cespedes remains under contract with the Mets through the 2020 season.” Van Wagenen said last month he was uncertain whether Cespedes would play in 2020. Cespedes had been owed $29 million this year and $29.5 million in 2020.
Is Yoenis Cespedes under contract?
After a one year deal to return, Cespedes signed a four year contract worth $110 million.
