EBike: use 48v motor with 36v controller and battery

5 min read

Asked by: Karen Cavanaugh

You can use a 48-volt battery with a 36-volt e-bike motor as long as the controller is compatible with 48-volt (or higher) setups, and the electric motor is compatible with and does not overheat by the increased Wattage (volt x amps) output generated by the 48-volt battery.

Can I run a 48V motor on a 36v battery?

Re: Using a 48v motor with a 36v battery

Running the 48V motor at a lower voltage should not make a great difference to the efficiency of the motor but you will only produce 75% of the power and maximum rpm on 36V compared to 48V.

Can I run a 48V motor with 36v controller?

Re: Using a 48V battery pack with 36V motor/controller

Most 36V controllers will support a 48V pack, but the LVC will still be set for a 36V pack, so you’ll need to monitor pack voltage and not let it get too low.

Can I use a 48V controller with 36v battery?

It depends on the controller. If the controller is 48v and has a low voltage cutout too high for a 36v battery, then you must do something to bypass the cutout. Some 36v controllers work fine on 48v.

Can a 36v speed controller handle 48V?

Re: Will a 36 volt controller handle a 48 volt battery? Probably already stated and answered but a 36v controller will work on a 48v battery, its just the controller wont kick in for lvc.

Can I put a higher voltage battery on my ebike?

Ebike power can be boosted by simply turning a ‘pot’ screw, disconnecting the power smoother plug or simply fitting a higher voltage battery. Alternatively, on high spec ebikes where battery and controller are inaccessible, you can fit performance chips.

Can I use a 48v charger to charge a 36V battery?

No, should not use a 48 volt charger on a 36 volt golf cart. A 36v cart uses 12 volts for each phase (or leg) of its power system, while the 48v cart uses 24 volts per leg. That means that if you try to charge your vehicle with too high voltage, it can fry the electronics on your golf cart.

Can I use a 60V battery on a 48V motor?

Re: How to use a 60v battery pack on 48v motor

The motor doesn’t matter. It all depends on the controllers max voltage limit. Most with an lcd display are limited to 60V max by the display and 63V max by the controller.

Will a 52V battery hurt a 48V controller?

Yeah normally a 52V battery will work just fine with a 48V controller, usually the only issue is the battery level indicator on the LCD is incorrect. Occasionally they’ll complain of overvoltage, but they should not be damaged.

Will a new controller make my ebike faster?

Controllers can be modified to increase the current, and that might increase acceleration if the battery can deliver the extra current., but top speed is not changed much, unless the original current setting was really low.

What’s the difference between 36V and 48V?

Battery Volts

A battery with a higher voltage would offer more power. It is pretty simple to understand. A 36V e-bike battery will allow you to draw a lesser critical current, typically around 15 amperes whereas, a 48V e-bike battery will allow more current in the range of 10 – 40 amperes.

What is the best voltage for an ebike battery?

Electric bikes typically come with a 48-volt or 52-volt battery. The difference between the two is power and performance: A 52V battery delivers better performance. A higher-voltage battery provides greater efficiency, with the battery using less electricity to provide the same or better power for the bike.

Can I use a 52V battery on a 48V ebike?

As long as you are using a Juiced Bike with an LCD display, the 52V battery can be used. The 52V battery pack is designed to be interchangeable with that of the 48V bikes that use an LCD display (CrossCurrent S and RipCurrent S). These bikes were actually initially designed to use the 52V system.

Can I put a 36V battery on a 24V ebike?

I put a 48v battery in a 36v ebike – This is what happened

Can you put 48 volts to a 36 volt golf cart motor?

Yes, but effective and simple. However, although it is possible to upgrade these vehicles to electronic speed control at either the 36V or 48V level, I would not recommend it due to the cost associated with the conversion. You can buy a modern 48V cart for far less money than the 36v to 48v conversion.

Can a 250w motor run on 48V?

A 52v battery powering through a 48v controller to run a 250w motor will probably do fine if the motor is producing 250w or less. Like stated above, the motor probably has plastic gears that are made for a load of 250 watts or less.

Can I charge my eBike from an inverter?

Can I Charge My Ebike With An Inverter? As a whole, you can charge an eBike with an inverter by plugging the inverter into a car, wall outlet, solar panel, or another electrical setup. Hook the eBike’s battery into the inverter, ensuring it’s capable of 1000W to power the vast majority of bike batteries.

What size inverter do I need to charge ebike batteries?

If we assume two batteries, the inverter should be able to consistently deliver 332 watts. With calculated reserves, a 500 watt voltage transformer would be a good choice.

Can solar panels charge e-bikes?

Can you charge an e-Bike with a solar panel? Short answer, you can charge an e-Bike with a solar panel. But you’ll have to keep the charging speed in mind. Chargers for 48V eBike batteries will need at least two solar panels capable of putting out at least 200W of power if you want to charge your eBike in a day.
