7 min read

Asked by: Dustin Rashid

The frequency of watering depends on the evaporation and the water supply in the COCO. A common rule is; one daily watering is sufficient during the first few weeks under normal circumstances; then increase up to 2 times a day; 2 hours after the lamps have been turned on and 2 hours before they are switched off again.

How often should you water Coco?

WATERING COCO COIR

A good rule of thumb would be to water every four or five days. You also need to use a pot that provides good drainage, as your coco coir requires air as well as moisture to promote healthy plant growth. If there’s too much moisture inside, there won’t be enough air.

Can you overwater in Coco?

One of the biggest issues with coco is watering practices. Coco is a sponge, and like a sponge, when squeezed water comes out, but not all the water. The sponge will remain damp and coco can still appear wet without having enough available water to give to the plant. Constantly watering coco results in over-watering.

Should Coco wet keep?

CANNA’s COCO is made up of thousands of capillary micro-sponges that retain almost 1000 % of their own weight in water. Therefore coco retains an enormous buffer of water and nutrients. It is recommended that the grower keeps the medium a bit dry rather than soaking wet.

Can you feed Coco twice a day?

Start with Once or Twice DAILY Watering in Coco:

Should I use nutrients every time I water?

You don’t want to use liquid nutrients every time you water—use them every other watering, or two waterings on, one off. It depends on the complexity of your soil and the health of your plants. Too many nutrients will damage your plants. Giving weed plants the proper amount of nutrients requires careful monitoring.

How do you know if your coco is overwatered?

If you see green stuff growing on the top of your coco (algae) it’s often a sign that you’re watering too often. Although algae won’t hurt your plants directly, it only appears when the top of the coco has been constantly wet for a long time. These plants ended up getting fungus gnats from being watered too often.

What should my pH be in coco?

Acceptable pH Range for Coco: 5.5-6.5

Coco does not buffer the pH of nutrient solution as effectively as soil and therefore it is critical to set the pH of the nutrient solution inflow within the range of 5.5 to 6.5.

What should my Coco runoff be?

Run off is the excess feed that gathers beneath your pots when you water plants. Whether hand feeding or drip feeding plants, always aim for 20-30% run off each day. This’ll ensure the root zone has the right nutrient concentration. To maximise root growth, hand feed all plants during the propagation period.

It’s generally recommended to flush plants for a few days to 2 weeks. I think this is a pretty good standard to go by. Unless you’re growing in amended super soil, flushing for longer than 2 weeks without nutrients is likely to stunt growth of the buds, which we don’t want in the flowering stage!
