Decreasing number of push-ups?

Asked by: Araceli Dundas

Why do my reps decrease?

It is completely natural. Your muscles tear down with every set you do. So when you are into your second set, say 25% of your muscle tissue is already fatigued, resulting in less number of repetitions.

Why am I getting weaker the more I workout?

You’re intensity and volume are too high

This notion more is better often leads to exhaustion. And, over time, this can lead to overtraining and decreased results. Rather than trying to hit your muscles from every angle, focus on the heavy hitters that’ll get you the most results in the least amount of time.

Should reps decrease?

As you can see, the same weight is used in all of the sets of this exercise. It’s not increased or decreased at any point. You’ll also notice that the number of reps being done (or at least attempted as the goal) remained the same as well.
Traditional Straight Sets.

Set Weight Reps
#1 100lbs 8
#2 100lbs 8
