What is cable lubricant?
What is a cable pulling lubricant? A cable pulling lubricant is a specialty product designed to reduce the friction of a cable while pulling into a conduit. The friction reduction lowers the force required to pull the cable into the conduit. This reduces the tension (tensile stress) on the cable during installation.
Can you use WD 40 for cable lube?
Quote from video: You can use this on vertical surfaces chains cables gears and rollers and it's not going to fling off like a normal lubricant.
What can I use as lube for cable?
Quote from video: Regular old engine oil works fine and you can use pretty much any lubricant you want but steer clear of solvents like wd-40. And penetrating oil now holding the cable vertically.
Should you lube your cables?
Cable lubrication is recommended, especially if you ride in the rain or have old cable housings. Most brake and shift cables these days have a plastic lining built into the housing, therefore eliminating the need for lubrication.
How do you lubricate a cable machine?
Quote from video: We recommend using super lube on all of our strength products wipe off excess with a rag and enjoy smooth cable action once again.
What is wire pulling lubricant made of?
3MTM Wire Pulling Lubricant is a translucent white polymer gel, which produced a low coefficient of friction for smooth low-tension wire and cable pulling. A low coefficient of friction makes cable pulling easier and safer with less change for cable jacket damage from high pulling forces.
Is WD-40 harmful to electronics?
Electronics. Specifically, you should avoid using WD-40 to fix your iPad or iPhone home button. It could further damage the device since some iPhones consist of plastic parts. Plus, it doesn’t help that WD-40 is a liquid and spraying it closely to electronics is a hazard.
Can you use white lithium grease on cables?
Both Hemmings and The Garage Journal recommend lubricating speedo cables with a spray can of white lithium grease, and I concur. It’s heavy enough that it stays in place and doesn’t run out the bottom end of the cable.
Will WD-40 damage electronics?
As WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner is a non-conductive cleaner spray, it is ideal for all sensitive electrical components.
Can you use Vaseline to lubricate rubber?
Quote from video: The petroleum jelly just eats away at the rubber. And it caused them to deteriorate quicker and fail. So you want to use something silicone or Teflon base to lubricate the o-rings keep them soft.
Can I use silicone lubricant on electronics?
Silicone oils are dielectric and so is silicone grease, silicone is generally low cost and widely available. However we do not recommend using any silicone based lubricant for use on electrical connectors or contacts.
What can I use to lubricate metal?
Quote from video: Metal to metal contact requires a heavy-duty lubricant that won't run off to keep them working properly use wd-40 specialist protective white lithium grease.
Which type of grease is used to lubricate cables and door hinges?
White lithium grease
White lithium grease is good for metal-to- metal joints like hinge and latch mechanisms, which need a clinging grease to repel water and hold up under harsh conditions. WD-40 is for light-duty lubrication and freeing up sticking or partially rusted hinges and a car door latch.
What is the main purpose of lubricating a wire rope?
Wire rope lubricants have three principal functions. First, they reduce the friction as individual wires move over each other. Second, they provide corrosion protection in the core, inside wires, and exterior surfaces. Third, they prevent abrasive wear.
Can you use dishwashing liquid as wire lubricant?
“An installer will say the cable worked after he pulled it. But over time, an improper lubricant may cause stress cracking or other deterioration of the cable jacket. This is why automotive greases and dishwashing liquids are never appropriate as pulling lubricants. There is too much chance of jacket damage.”

What should I use to lube my throttle cable?
A silicone spray will do nicely. Avoid general or multipurpose lubricants or any unrelated oils, like motor oil. Do not use chain lube for your cables. Cleaning and lubricating your throttle cables will help the cables last longer while preventing fraying or snapping.
How do you free up a sticky throttle cable?
Pour penetrating oil into the cable (Photo 1). Grab the inner cable with pliers and work it up and down to loosen it. When the cable moves freely and all the penetrating oil has drained out, squirt silicone lubricant into the funnel to keep the cable sliding freely. Reinstall the cable (Photo 2).
How do I make my throttle cable not stick?
Quote from video: So that you just this and that will pull this one tighter. Which will pull that around which will tighten this up and that will keep it tight.
