Do you need a special chain for a narrow wide chainring?

Now when using a narrow wide chainring, you don’t need to use a chainguide at all. This keeps thing nice and simple! Some riders still chose to run a chainguide alongside a narrow wide ring for maximum chain security.

Can you use a half link chain on a narrow wide chainring?

Half link chains and half links will not work with narrow/wide chainrings. It’s the same reason narrow/wide chainrings only come with even tooth counts… narrows and wides need to alternate evenly on the chainring (teeth) and the chain (links).

How do I know if my chain chain is narrow wide?

Quote from video: You were to take a chain. And place it on here it'll actually go across the chain ring. And. You'll notice the wider portions of the chain.

Quote from video: So we can remove it from the front make some front mex we'll have a screw here that you can undo and slightly lever the cage apart so the chain can be squeezed out of it.

Will single speed chain work with narrow wide chainring?

one chain loop

narrow-wide is the way to go, unless you have a half-link chain connector. 10 and 11sp chain will optimize the use of narrow wide chainring, but those chains doesn’t usually blend well with 3/32 SS cogs.

Can you use a narrow wide chainring with a front derailleur?

To be clear it will not work with a derailleur as there would be nothing to stop the narrow chain link going onto the wide tooth.

Can you put a half-link on a full Link chain?

The pairing of an inner and outer link creates a full link in the chain. With full-link chains, you have to remove two 1/2 links to remove a full link; the same goes for adding a link.

Can I use a Shimano chain on a SRAM chainring?

Shimano and SRAM 11-speed chains are cross-compatible. If you have a Shimano 11-speed drivetrain, a SRAM chain will work fine and vice versa, however manufacturer’s recommend pairing your components for optimal performance.

Are all chainrings compatible?

You can replace the chainrings on your crankset, but not all chainrings will fit all cranks. First, different cranksets may have a different number of arms or direct-mount interfaces (connecting the cranks to the chainrings), and they may be positioned differently.

Is an 8 speed chain compatible with a narrow wide chainring?

Yes it works fine. I’m running a 32t Raceface narrow/wide with an 8 spd chain on my converted single speed and i’ve had no problems at all.

Is Shimano narrow wide?

Shimano’s new XTR chainring doesn’t have a narrow/wide tooth profile like that used by SRAM and Race Face, and the teeth aren’t wavey like MRP’s patent swerving design either.

How do I know if my chainring is worn out?

Quote from video: Start to become hooked. Like little shark's teeth. And that is a surefire sign that you need to replace the chain rings.

Are chainrings speed specific?

Chainrings are sold as having a specific compatibility for only certain speed setups, some overlapping across many. What physically makes this the case?

Can you use 12 speed chainring single speed?

2. you can use 1-, 11, or 12-speed specific chainrings on your singlespeed bike. there is really no such thing as a single chainring that does not work just as well for a 1X drivetrain as it does for a singlespeed drivetrain.

Do all chains fit all chainrings?

As long as your attempting to replace them with a chainring(s) designed to work with your chainset. Your cranks will have a specific bolt layout or fitment spec so you can’t just fit a BMX chainring to your triathlon bike.

Is a bigger chainring faster?

The larger chainring gives you bigger, harder to turn gears that move you further per pedal revolution – so it’s suitable for higher speeds – while the smaller chainring gives you gears that are easier to turn but move you a shorter distance per pedal revolution – so it’s suitable for lower speeds, including riding

How does chainring size affect speed?

The smaller the chainring, the easier the lowest gear for climbing; the bigger the chainring, the faster you can go in the highest gear. You can calculate the gearing ratio by dividing the teeth of the chainring with the teeth of the cog on the cassette.
