Can you spray Waterlox?

Spraying Waterlox finishes is possible using both a conventional or HVLP (high-volume, low-pressure) spray gun. HVLP is recommended due to less overspray and better transfer efficiency. We do not recommend spraying our UNIVERSAL Tung Oil, H2OLOX or TRUETONE products.
What is the best way to apply Waterlox?
Allow the mineral spirits to evaporate (15-30 minutes) before applying. Apply Waterlox ORIGINAL Sealer/Finish liberally with the grain using a lamb’s wool applicator (floors) or a quality natural bristle brush or paint pad. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Repeat steps 2-4 for a second (for soft wood species, a third) coat.
How do I get a smooth finish with Waterlox?
Wipe the surface clean with a clean lint free cloth, very lightly dampened with mineral spirits. This will pick up all the material from the pores and slurry from buffing and should restore the clarity. At this point you should have a very smooth, consistent surface.
Can you apply tung oil with a sprayer?
Tung oil should never be sprayed, only brushed on. And, if this is the first application (coat), pure tung oil should be thinned to a 1:1-1/2 ratio. Anything less and the oil (almost honey thick) stays on the surface and wears off very quickly.
Should I sand between coats of Waterlox?
Sanding for adhesion purposes is not required between coats of Waterlox Original Tung oil finishes. This makes Waterlox unique and different from most surface finishes which need abrasion for inter-coat adhesion. Most surface finishes such as urethanes require the sanding process to create what’s called a “profile”.
Can I apply Waterlox with a rag?
So I’ve applied waterlox a few times now. I’ve found the most foolproof way to apply is a rag/cheesecloth, but the buildup takes significantly longer, not to mention the occasional lint or fuzz that gets caught on the grain. The recommended way to apply it is with a brush.
Is Waterlox better than tung oil?
While Waterlox Original Tung oil finishes contain a superior drying oil, namely Tung Oil, they are fully cooked varnishes, which dry quicker and form permanent films tough enough to walk on and take daily abuse. Waterlox Original Tung oil finishes are also water and chemical resistant (alcohol and alkali).
How long does Waterlox last?
Waterlox finishes tend to wear very nicely and settle into a nice patina. They also will maintain a high level of protection even when worn (to a certain degree) due to the penetrating nature of the coatings. In general, the lifespan of an interior coating on a well-used surface will be 7-10 years.
Does Waterlox yellow?
Waterlox is a very yellow tinted finish. That said, a yellow tint is generally used for Walnut. The yellow brings out the color and grain of the wood.
Can you touch up Waterlox?
Because the Original Semi-Gloss and High Gloss finishes do not use any pigments or flatteners, they can most easily be spot repaired. You can attempt to fill in scratches, scuffs or gouges by applying product directly to the area with a fine paint brush or perhaps a cotton swab (watch out for lint or fuzz).
How long should Waterlox dry between coats?
24 hours
DRY TIME Our general rule of thumb is to wait 24 hours between coats. Poor ventilation, high humidity or cool temperatures may increase dry times.
Can Waterlox be wiped on?
To brush it on 10-20% is fine. When you wipe it on you need to wipe it on about the same way the kid at the fast food place wipes the table. Get a nice damp coat and leave it alone. In 45 minutes or so it will be dry-to-the-touch.
How long does Waterlox take to dry?

How do you seal a butcher block with Waterlox?
Using a quality natural bristle brush apply our original sealer finish with the grain to cut in around the edges. Then use a professional paint pad or a worcester pro wool pad for the flat.

What temperature do you apply Waterlox to?
During application of Waterlox wet-applied finishes (ORIGINAL, H2OLOX®, URETHANE or MARINE), the product, project surface and environment should be close in temperature and at least 50°F during application and at least 1-2 hours afterward. When both the product and surface are cold, they are less compatible.

Do you need to seal Butcher block countertops?
If you used mineral oil to stain your butcher block, then you won’t need to seal the wood. The oil forms a barrier to keep stains from soaking in the wood. Never apply a sealer over a countertop finished with mineral oil. If you chose an oil-based stain, you can finish your countertops with polyurethane.

Can you use Waterlox on Cedar?
I have used Waterlox and General Finishes Seal-A-Cell then Arm-R-Seal with good luck on cedar. I also use Deft spray lacquer or spray poly with good luck also. One thing I found out though is cedar has to be bone dry. Genius is one per cent inspiration, ninety-nine per cent perspiration.
Is pure tung oil UV resistant?
Tung oil, in its raw form will not offer any UV protection, and will offer only minimal protection from weather.
Does tung oil protect from UV rays?
Made from Pure tung oil, pine oil, and zinc, it offers natural and non-toxic weather protection. Zinc is well-known for its UV protection against the sun’s damaging UV rays. Meanwhile, the pine oil prevents the growth of mold and mildew and the tung oil adds its waterproof proof properties.
Is linseed oil better than tung oil?
Tung oil creates a harder, more durable finish than linseed oil. Tung oil is more water-resistant than linseed oil. Raw linseed oil takes significantly longer to cure than pure tung oil. Tung oil is generally more expensive than linseed oil.
Is teak oil better than tung oil?
While both teak and tung oil offer protection, teak oil offers more overall. It works better on hardwoods and is scratch-resistant. Since this is where the protective quality of the oil is measured, teak oil wins.
