Can I use Shimano Claris shifter to my Shimano Tourney road bike

In short, no it will not work well. So while you might be able to prevent the shifter from overshifting by using the derailleur limit screws, you will never be able to index the gears perfectly because of the different cable pull amounts.
Are Shimano shifters compatible?
Shimano 10 speed road shifters are compatible with Shimano MTB RDs from 6 to 9 speeds and with shimano road RDs from 6 to 10 speeds. Exceptions are Shimano Tiagra 4700 road shifters that work with Shimano Tiagra 4700 RDs and Shimano 11 speed road RDs.
Can you use different shifters with Shimano derailleurs?
Shimano derailleur compatibility
Most 8- and 9-speed Shimano mountain bike and road kit is inter-compatible because they both use the same cable pull ratio. This means that you can use an 8 -or 9-speed mountain bike derailleur with road shifters or vice versa.
Is Shimano Claris for road bike?
Generally, you will find either Shimano Claris or Shimano Sora on entry-level road bikes. They are at the bottom of the Shimano road bike groupset ladder. However, that does not mean that they are not fit for purpose, especially for beginners.
Can you use Shimano Tourney on roadbike?
Shimano Tourney is most famous for derailleurs, both front and rear. Considered the most entry-level groupset in the Shimano MTB hierarchy, this groupset is also used on hybrid and road bicycles.
Can you mix and match Shimano components?
It is possible to mix and match as long as you get components from the same generation. For example: 9000 Dura Ace, 6800 Ultegra, and 5800 105 are all cross compatible. Each have 11-speeds in the rear, use the same cable pull per shift and use the same front derailleur design.
Can I use any gear shifter?
No, different maker or different model with different number of “speed” shifters have different pull ratio (i.e. the length of cable pulled by a single shift). Usually it’s safe to use different model with same number of gears from the same maker.
Can you change gear shifters on a bike?
There are several types of shifters, but they all operate on this same principle. Although reasonably durable, shifters do eventually wear out. If you’re comfortable with basic hand tools and mechanical concepts, then replacing a bicycle gear’s shifters is not at all that difficult.
Can you use a 7 speed shifter on a 6 speed bike?
Re: Can you use a 7 speed shifter on a 6 speed cassette? The “numbers” say they don’t match. The cable pull of a 7 speed is less than a 6 speed so, though a couple of cogs might work, the rest will gradually not. You’ll never know if you don’t try it.
Can you use friction shifters with any derailleur?
Any derailleur will work with a friction shifter.
How do you use Shimano Claris shifters?
Quote from video: So you move the whole shifter across with your left hand and then click down with the small lever on your right hand now there are two exceptions with Shimano gears but firstly it's for di2.
Is Claris good enough?
The newer Claris is actually really good. I’ve tried a lot of groupsets as a bike shop employee, and while I wouldn’t get a bike with Claris anymore, I never hesitate to recommend it to a beginner. It’s good enough for most people, save for the serious roadies.
What is better Shimano Claris or 105?
105 is higher in Shimano’s road hierarchy as it’s designed for “enthusiasts” whereas Claris components are considered entry-level. Therefore, there is no doubt that Shimano 105 is the more sophisticated of the two. However, higher-end components are not the best choice for every project.
Is Shimano Claris compatibility?
Yes, you can use any 8 or 9 speed rear derailleur (with the traditional cable pull ratio, but SRAM 1:1 does not matter here) with 8 speed shifters. The same for the front ones. That includes these two Claris generations. Your combination is compatible.
Can I use a 9 speed derailleur on a 8 speed cassette?
Condensed answer: 8 and 9-speed derailleurs have the same rear shift ratio but only when both models are made either by Shimano or SRAM. In consequence, a 9-speed derailleur can work just fine with an 8-speed cassette produced by the same brand.
Can I use a MTB derailleur on a road bike?
Shimano Claris: everything you need to know
Do Shimano shifters work with SRAM derailleurs?
The SRAM rear derailleur (mech) will not work with a Shimano shifter as is; the cable pull and shift activation ratios are not the same between the two systems.
Can I use a 9 speed shifter with a 7 speed cassette?
If you used a 7 speed cassette, with a 9 speed shifter and 7 speed derailleur you would not pull enough cable and the shifts will get mangled. If you are currently on 7 Speeds, this means you have a 7 speed wheel that will most likely NOT take a 9 speed cassette.
Can you use a 7 speed shifter on a 6 speed bike?

Can I use an 11 speed derailleur on a 10 speed shifter?
Can An 11-speed Derailleur Work With a 10-speed Cassette and Shifter? Condensed Answer: Shimano’s 11-speed derailleurs have a different rear shift ratio than 10-speed derailleurs and are therefore not compatible with 10-speed indexed shifters.
Are Shimano 10 and 11 speed compatibility?
Shimano’s mechanical 10- and 11-speed road shifters are not compatible with its 10- and 11-speed MTB derailleurs.
Will a 10 speed derailleur work with 8 speed?
TL;DR: no, a SRAM 10-speed derailleur will not work with an 8-speed shifter. The reason behind it is kinda complex, though. With drivetrain compatibility, your shifter speeds always has to match your cassette speeds – that much is obvious. However, you actually have quite a bit more flexibility in your derailleur.
