BB spindle length standard for single speed bike?

The range is much smaller than with gears, track bb axle lengths mostly go from 103mm – 112mm (there are smaller and longer for less common cranksets). I think 103mm and 107mm are the most common sizes, given that their respective cranksets would be the most common cranksets.

How do I choose a BB spindle length?

The best way to find out which spindle length you need is by looking up the specs. (The alternative is trial and error…) Spindle length and the resulting chainline have some leeway. If you are within 2-3 mm of the “correct” 43.5 mm or 45 mm, you are doing quite well.

How do I know what length bottom bracket I need?

To find out the size of bottom bracket needed, measure the inside of the bottom bracket shell in your frame, it will be 73mm, 70mm or 68mm. Some older frames may have Italian threaded bottom brackets, instead of the more modern English.

To a certain extent which bottom bracket you end up buying is up to what kind of frame you have. Certain frame materials and drivetrain options only support one type of Bottom Bracket. There are two main types of bicycle bottom brackets in today’s market, namely, threaded and press-fit BB’s.

Is BB92 the same as PF92?

The frame’s bottom bracket shell inner diameter is 37mm. A bearing with an OD of 37mm is pressed directly into the frame. Trek is moving away from the BB90/95 system to what they call PF92, which is the same as a BB92 (41mm ID shell and 92mm width).

Are all bottom brackets the same size?

There are 4 widths available with BSA bottom brackets; 68mm, 73mm, 83mm or 100mm. This bottom bracket clearly shows you on the outside what bearings have been fitted to the bike. For road bikes, a BSA bottom bracket is always 68 mm wide. Other sizes, and particularly the 73 mm width, is commonplace with mountain bikes.

What cranks will fit my bike?

The three most common crank lengths for bicycles are 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm. What size your bike has will likely depend on what size the frame is. Small bikes tend to come with 170mm cranks, medium with 172.5mm and large with 175mm.

Do all cranks fit all bottom brackets?

What do the numbers on a bottom bracket mean?

The numbers ranging from 86 to 132 refer to the nominal width of the shell in millimeters, which is not related to the press fit of the bearings. These bottom brackets will vary in the width of the dust sleeve used for that different widths.

What is the difference between BB386 and BB386 Evo?

BB86 and BB386(Evo) are different standards and should not be included in the same conversation. Bb386 overall shell diameter is 46 mm diameter and the BB86 is 41 mm. 386evo BB with adapters, can run either 24 mm or 30mm styles. So if you are looking to run a shimano crank (24mm) that can be done on your 386.

How do I know if my bottom bracket is Italian or English?

The key difference is in how the two thread into the bottom bracket shell. Like pedals, one side of a BSA standard bottom bracket shell is reverse (left) threaded, while both sides of an Italian standard bottom bracket shell are regularly (right) threaded.
