For most seat posts, they already come with an adapter already attached. It’s possible though that if you had a special bike seat, it might need a special seat post to go with it. If this is the case, you’ll also need to make sure the seat post fits your bike.

The rails of a saddle create a frame under the seating area that fits into the clamp at the top of your seatpost. Most modern bikes conform to the same standard, so any reputable saddle will fit any reputable bike.

Features a metal lock and springs. Rarely used today due to it’s heavy weight. Main advantage is that with rail seat you are able to adjust the seat’s position in all directions (set up the angle or move it forward/backwards) unlike the other seat types.
Should you grease saddle rails?
Yes, grease at all metal to metal contact (especially important with Fizik Cyrano seatposts). If a creak develops in the future, I usually put a drop of T-9 Boeshield at the contact points instead of removing the saddle from the seatpost.
