Can I use a 7-speed cassette on a Wahoo Kickr core?
Yes, as stated in posts on one or more of those threads including the link to the YouTube video, we used a 7-speed mountain bike on a KICKR direct driver trainer for years.
Are cassettes and freewheels interchangeable?
They are attached using two different mechanisms – the Cassette, and the Freewheel. Although they look very similar and have the same function when fitted, they operate differently and are not interchangeable.
How do I connect my bike to my direct drive trainer?
Quote from video: Now that we have the bike lined up on the trainer we can start by inserting the flat adapter into the non-drive. Side then we can take the threaded adapter. And thread it into the drive.
Will a 7-speed cassette fit on a 10 speed hub?
7-speed cassettes fit fine on 8- and 9-speed (and most 10-speed) hubs if you put a 4.5 mm spacer onto the body before the cassette.
Can I put any cassette on Wahoo Kickr?
The KICKR uses an 11-speed compatible Shimano freehub body, but you can install an 8, 9, or 10 speed cassette with the proper spacers. For instructions on replacing the cassette with the proper spacers, click HERE.
Can I use a 7 speed cassette on a 11 speed hub?
Condensed answer: A 7-speed cassette can be installed on an 11-speed hub. Since 7-speed cassettes are narrower than 11-speed cassettes, the installation will require the use of a spacer to make up for the gap left on the hub.
Are cassettes better than freewheels?
Due to the lower number of gears, a freewheel system is usually better for the more casual rider. The freewheel system is generally better for cruising, so if you do not need the higher number of gears to be found in a cassette system then it is well worth considering.
Do all cassettes fit all hubs?
Both 6 and 7-speed HG cassettes are narrower in width and therefore can be installed on any of the above HG freehub bodies with the addition of a 4.5 mm spacer behind the cassette. However, newer 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12-speed cassettes cannot be fitted to old and narrower 7-speed freehub bodies.
What is difference between bike cassette and freewheel?
What is the main difference between freewheel and cassette hub? The freewheel is a single-unit and the act of pedaling tightens the freewheel to the hub. Whereas the cassette hub is a set of gears (cogs) that slides onto a cassette and is held in place by a lock ring.
Can you use a bike trainer with quick release wheels?
Yes you can use a bike trainer with quick-release wheels. But it is not recommended to use the original quick release skewer from your wheel. You should use the one provided with the turbo trainer.
What gear should my bike be in on a turbo trainer?
Because your Tacx trainer’s resistance is manually-controlled, I’d say start with a middle level of resistance on the trainer, and a middle gear on the bike, and see if that feels too easy or too hard for the pedaling cadence you prefer.
Can I use thru axle on trainer?
It can be a little more difficult if your bike has a rear thru axle. You’ll need an adaptor in order to fit a thru axle bike to a wheel-on trainer. You usually have to buy the adaptor separately. Most direct drive trainers now come with whatever’s necessary to use it with a thru axle bike.
Can I use an 8 speed cassette on a Wahoo Kickr core?
A 8, 9, or 10-speed cassette will work on Wahoo Kickr. You will have to install the 1.8mm spacer provided with your Kickr.
What kind of cassette comes with Wahoo Kickr?
11-speed Shimano/SRAM
And like in the past, this new one comes preinstalled with an 11-speed Shimano/SRAM-compatible cassette and will work with most 8-, 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-speed setups, and it connected easily to Zwift and several other third-party apps in our testing.
How do you hook up a cassette to a turbo trainer?
Quote from video: So we just need to make sure that that's nice and flat screw. It in by hand. Initially once that looks a little tight. In. We're. Then just snug it down with the lock ring tool.
Are freewheels interchangeable?
No, freewheels are completely different from the cassette / free hub system and are not interchangeable. A freewheel includes the ratchet mechanism that allows the sprockets to rotate backwards as well as the sprockets themselves, and threads into the hub.
Are Shimano 10 and 11 speed cassettes the same width?
Same width as xt cassette? not quite. 11s road cassettes are wider than 11s mountain, so you could install an 11s xt cassette on a 10s ultegra hub, but not vice versa.
Can you fit a 12 speed cassette on a 11 speed hub?
The 12-speed cassette is designed to be backwards compatible with the existing 11-speed road freehub, while the 12 speed-specific freehub (available on Dura Ace hubs currently) can’t be used with the 11-speed parts. Sram HG-style cassettes are largely the same spacing as Shimano, with the 10 speed exception.
Can I use a 11 speed cassette on a 10 speed hub?
No, 11speed mountain cassettes are slightly wider than 10/9/8 speed ones, so newer Shimano free hubs come with a small spacer (only 1 or 2 mm) so they’re still compatible with older drive trains.
Can I put a bigger cassette on my bike?
Yes, almost any bike is compatible with bigger cassettes, bike drivetrain is groupset of components that works in perfect harmony, any miss reconfiguring can break the perfect functionality of the system, parts that need to be changed and reconfigured when putting bigger cassette which is long-chain, wide cage
Do I need a spacer for 11 speed cassette?
No Sram cassette requires the use of any additional spacers. If you are running Shimano or Sram 11 speed, the cassette will simply install directly on the freehub body with no spacers required. If you upgrade from 10 speed to 11 speed, you can remove all spacers and simply slide the cassette onto the freehub.
