How does a rad power bike work?

Rad Power Bikes utilizes a direct drive motor on our RadWagon, RadCity, and RadCity Step-Thru models. A direct drive motor is normally found near the hub of the rear wheel and utilize a system of magnets to propel the bike.

Do Rad bikes charge when you pedal?

Electric bikes from Rad Power Bikes do not recharge when you pedal. In theory, this seems like an attractive feature but it actually would decrease the performance of the bike. In order to generate enough energy to charge the battery, you would need to add pedaling resistance which would slow the rider down.

How does power assist work on e-bike?

The speed sensor detects some forward pedal rotation or a certain rotational speed and activates the motor to power your ride. A setting on the e-bike display determines how much power the motor uses to assist your pedaling. The torque sensor detects the force of your pedaling before activating the motor.

Can you ride a rad bike without pedaling?

All of our bikes (U.S. and Canada) include a throttle on the right handlebar that lets you move without pedaling.
