Are all bike inner tubes the same?

Your inner tube needs to fit the wheel’s diameter and also the width of the tyre fitted, so there are two significant measurements to get right. Let’s start with diameter – make sure you’ve got the right size inner tube for your wheel’s diameter or you’ll find it difficult to fit.

The best way to check what size inner tube you need is to look on the sidewall of your tyre. Tyre manufacturers print the size on the sidewalls, so look out for numbers such as ‘700x23c’ for a road bike, or ’26×1. 75′ which is for mountain bikes.

Are all inner tubes the same size?

Are bike tubes different sizes?

Does inner tube width matter?

All inner tubes will come with a recommended range for tyre width – for example 700 × 20–25 for traditional road tyres, 700 × 25–32 for wider road tyres. A narrower inner tube will balloon out to fill a tyre a few millimetres wider than its recommended width – but don’t take it too far or it might explode.

What does 700C mean?

The “700” refers to the rough outer diameter of the tire, although the actual outer diameter will vary greatly, depending on the type of tire and tread pattern. The “C” means NOTHING; it does not stand for “centimeters.” Think about it–a 700-centimeter tire would be HUGE, over 21 feet tall!

What means 700x40c?

700x40c is the measurement of your bicycle tire and is sized according to what used to be known as the ‘French system’. ‘700’ is the nominal diameter of your tire, measured in millimeters. ‘x’ just means multiplied by. ’40’ is the second number and is the nominal tire width, also measure in millimeters.

Is a 28 inch tire the same as 700C?

The tyres can differ, but the 28”, 700C and 29er are all the exact same rim diameter. The 700 markings will be followed by the width in mm, and the 28 or 29 markings will be followed by the width in inches. This is the most common wheel size, so look out for familiar markings (such as 28×1.

IS 700C and 29er the same?

29″ (ISO size 622) is actually the same rim diameter as 700C, although most 29″ tires will not fit 700C road rims because they’re too wide.
